Bombay Bicycle Club

July 30, 2010

by Gibson Humingbird

Just heard the song “You already know” by the Bombay Bicycle Club” and I had to post something about this band as they seem to be a really cool and talented band. In 2006 the band won UK’s Channel 4’s  “Road to V” competition and so far they have released two albums which were quite successful in the UK. Hopefully they will be touring the rest of Europe soon.

Satin and Silk …

July 26, 2010

Hello darlings and unhappy Monday! Lately I have been suffering from a terrible case of writer’s block. I couldn’t write a word. Maybe it’s the weather. It was so hot, my brain simply turned to mush. Now it’s raining again so everything is the way it is supposed to be: shitty weather in Germany. Thank God!

Anyway, I found something to cheer me up, and hopefully also some of our female readers: SUMMER SALE at La Perla. My weakness for this Italian Lingerie label has been pretty obvious from my previous posts. And there is nothing like their Sales.
Girls, I really can’t say enough about the importance of pretty/sexy underwear.
What lies beneath can dramatically influence your outfit and make you feel good about yourself, give you a boost of confidence.

So go out and grab some power panties, NOW!

The Fake Dragon

July 20, 2010

by Maya

Hello world. So here I am, recovering from a friend’s wedding and the hottest two weeks in years. And yes, I mean it in the most literal sense. These past days have been so hot and sweaty I felt like my body and brain would melt into nothingness.

On days like these, when you cannot function at all, the best thing one can do is to simply plop onto the couch and watch a movie. I finally managed to watch the Millenium Trilogy that is based on the famous Stieg Larsson novels. I did not read the books but some of my friends were totally excited about the books and the movies.

The movies are a Swedish production. The actors are very good, particularly Noomi Rapace who plays Lisbeth Salander. She captures Lisbeth’s remote and mysterious personality in the most intense way. I think that the first instalment of the series, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, is actually the best and I can definitely recommend the movies if you like a well-made thriller. But beware; they are not for the faint-hearted. There is a lot of explicit sex and violence in them.

Recently I read that they are planning an American remake of the trilogy. It is not the first time that Hollywood tries to copy a perfectly successful European movie. Most of these remakes are not even half as good as the originals. I understand that the U.S. is still the biggest target market of the movie industry and that they want to make domestic money with a domestic production. But I am still wondering why they won’t give a European production a chance in the USA. I read somewhere that the American audience doesn’t like watching dubbed movies. Is it true? And if so, then why? In Germany people are used to watching dubbed American movies. The quality is really exceptional so nobody would ever demand a German version. And why would you prefer a bad copy to the real deal? Isn’t it like buying fake Louis Vuitton? And as far as I am concerned famous Hollywood names do not guarantee quality.

So before the Hollywoodesque version of Lisbeth Salander hits the theaters please do me a favour and watch the Swedish original.

Back to life!

Finally I feel like a human being again. The last three weeks I spent with working day and night on my current project. I think it was worth doing it, but at this point I always ask myself what is more important to me, being successful or enjoying life…well, this is some kind of a philosophical question and is always linked with one‘s attitude to life. But there is one thing I am sure about: When all work is done, I will turn my back on university, and my belly to the sun! For this case I have discovered a great sun protection cream. You need to apply it just once a day! I use it particularly for my face, because it is so light and I hate all these oily suncreams. But well, like most good things, this cream is quite expensive…anyway, I can recommend it to anyone who has very sensitive and pale skin, it‘s worth the money.
