So what happens when a volcano in Iceland decides to blow it’s top?

Airline traffic across the globe is affected as well as most of the travelers across the world including myself being stuck in Bangkok… It was my first stopover in Asia and I have to say that this country is completely different to all other places I have seen so far. There are a lot of things you can do in Bangkok …sightseeing, eating really weird things or just relaxing.

Well my first stop was at Lumpini Night Market (6pm-11pm) which is a really cute market and my first lesson was learning how to bargain which is very easy.  Another market you have to see is Chatuchak Weekend Market. It is a huge market which has nearly everything you could ever wish to buy and many things that you would never want to. I can only recommend going early in the day as the market gets very hot and humid during the day. No A/C at all 😉  I was dying.

MBK is another must visit. It’s a 6 floors shopping mall which you have to see.  Just keep in mind that most of the stuff is fake. On the 5th floor there is a really great food court  – it’s cheap and yummy.

Sights you have to see are the Golden Mountain, The Grand Palace and Wat Pho with an enormous reclining Buddha. Don’t get confused when locals claim that the Grand Palace is closed for the day and offer you to take you elsewhere to see other sites. It’s a trap. The Grand Palace is always open.         If you want to get a glimpse of the old-style Bangkok canal side life hire one of the long tail boats. And don’t miss Khao San Road which is very popular with locals, backpackers and art students.

If you like Thai cuisine I can recommend “Ban Chiang”, they have excellent Thai food. The Banyan Tree Hotel has a rooftop bar where you can finish your day with a cocktail.

Something else you should keep in mind is to always ask the taxi driver about the meter. 😉

There are still places I have not seen yet and hopefully next time I’ll be able to .
